Resources

Below are helpful resource links for both students and parents. The first link is to the “Can-DO” statements established by the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language). The statements are self-assessment checklists used by language learners to assess what they can do with language in the Interpersonal, Interpretive, and Presentational modes of communication. These modes of communication are defined in the National Standards for 21st Century Language Learning and are organized in the following categories:

  • Interpersonal (person-to-person) communication
  • Presentational speaking (spoken production)
  • Presentational writing (written production)
  • Interpretive listening
  • Interpretive reading

The second link below is to the ACTFL proficiency guidelines for listening, speaking, reading, and writing. These guidelines are specific in what students should be able to master in order to achieve proficiency at each level.
